Child Development And Children Health Problems
| When a baby is born, it is one of the biggest and scariest adventures of them. At first they do not know that you are there to take care of them, feed them and comfort them. But gradually they know what it means to be comfortable, safe, unsafe, afraid, or hungry. |
However, even from birth a baby starts communicating with his or her parents but giving signals. Babies are in continuous mode of learning and it is the responsibility of the parents to help them in their learning endeavor.
Most new parents pay special attention to child development and any signs of children health problems in their babies. It is better to update yourself on the way a baby develops so that you will not rush to the emergency room with the smallest of problems.

Social-emotional Development:
- Most babies start watching faces of the parents when they are being talked to around 4 to 8 weeks
- A baby will start smiling by the time he or she is 5 to 7 weeks old and you will be able to hear your baby laugh aloud by the time he or she is 3 months old.
- If your baby does not start smiling by the time he or she is 8 weeks old, it is best to consult your pediatrician.
- If the baby does not clam down momentarily most of the time when picked up, you should consult a doctor.
Motor Skills, Vision and Hearing Development:
- If you touch a baby’s cheek, it will turn to that side to suckle. This response is there from birth in all babies.
- Most babies will start lifting their heads by the time they are 4 to 8 weeks when they are put on their tummies.
- By the time your baby is 2 months old, you will notice him or her kicking the legs vigorously.
- A baby will start watching a moving face by the time he or she is 2 to 3 months old.
- Eyes move in unison by the time the baby is 6 weeks old.
- By the time a baby is 1 month old, he or she will follow moving light for a couple of seconds.
Signs of Development and Health Problems:
- If the child is unusually stiff or floppy
- Arm and leg on one side are obviously different in muscle tone or power compared to the other side
- Fingers always held in a tight fist
- Not watching faces of people by 2 to 3 months
- Not getting startled by noises
- Long periods of crying and difficulties in settling down the baby
- Exceptionally good and not troubling the parents
