| Sleeping is one of the most important activities for baby. Why? Because newborns spend the most part of the day sleeping. Mother can adjust healthy sleeping patterns to their baby. Healthy sleeping habit can help baby grow up to be strong emotionally and physically. |
Baby Sleeping Habit:
Newborns sleep approximately fourteen to eighteen hours a day in their first week. After a month, they sleep around twelve and sixteen hours a day. Most newborns will not sleep more than 2-4 hours at a time. Babies will begin to sleep longer at night after six to eight weeks. Unfortunately, however, they still wake up during the night. Most babies will sleep through the night after three to six months.
How can you help adjusting a good sleeping habit? :
1) Find quiet place for your baby’s nap. There is no right or wrong place for babies to sleep, but it helps to find quiet place for their naps.
2) Teach your baby the difference between day and night. Newborns can not tell different day and night. But when they are about two weeks old, it is possible to teach them to distinguish day from night. How? Try to interact with your baby as much as you can during the day. If you feel like you want to watch T.V. when your baby is sleeping, go for it. Vice versa, Don’t play with your baby at night when he/she wakes up. Keep the lights or noise that might disturb your baby’s sleep down.
3) Start a bedtime routine. For instance, you can change the bed for your baby, or you can sing him/her a lullaby. Developing a bedtime pattern will help your baby sleeps better.
