Breastfeeding And Bottlefeeding Transtition

Many mothers decide to switch from breastfeeding to bottlefeeding when they are set to return to work. However, there are other mothers do want to bottlefeed because of various circumstances and reasons. So, if you are one of the mothers who wants to consider bottlefeeding, there are number of ways you can make the transition from breastfeeding to bottlefeeding.

Most doctors and lactation experts will tell you wait with introducing bottlefeed until the baby is 3 to 4 weeks old and breastfeeding is well-established. However, if you returning to work, you should start bottlefeeding your baby at least two weeks before you resume work so that you can pan out problems if they occur.

The transition from breastfeeding to bottlefeeding even for the baby is not easy because it requires different mouth and tongue movements. It will take the baby a little time to make that change and accept the bottle.

Another way of making the transition from breastfeeding to bottlefeeding is by giving the baby the bottle a little earlier than her regular feeding hour so that she would be hungry but not that hungry to get frustrated with the nipple of the bottle. You could also get someone else to give the bottlefeed the first time to the baby. This way the baby will not be confused as to why her mother is not giving her the bottle. The other person could be your partner, mother, childcare provider or another mother.

Bottlefeeding is just as nurturing as breastfeeding and based on the different methods you try, you can easily help your baby make the transition from breastfeeding to bottlefeeding.
